Poor Ryan

May 19, 2007 Leave a comment

It must suck to have a wife with a stronger career than you. So strong, in fact, that your name isn’t used on the headline. You have been relegated to “Reese Witherspoon’s Ex”.

Poor Ryan Phillipe

Damnit, man, you have your own career. Granted, when I start typing “Ryan” on Google, it does suggest Ryan Reynolds first. Course, that might be because you have a tough last name to spell. In fact, in the Google Suggestions, the misspelling comes first.

It’s worse than Rodney Dangerfield for you.

Tinky Winky says bye-bye to Jerry Falwell

This is too funny. Of course, it’s a LOT funnier if you have a child under 5 years old.

Eight years ago the Rev. Jerry Falwell warned parents that BBC children’s television star Tinky Winky was a hidden symbol of homosexuality. Falwell died Tuesday at 73, and the world wanted to talk to Tinky Winky.

“They’re calling again, again, again,” he said by phone from his home in Islington, in London. A spokesman said the former “Teletubbies” costar got more than 100 calls from reporters in the hour following news of Falwell’s death.

“Oh dear, it’s easy to say the wrong thing here,” he said. “Tinky Winky sad whenever someone dies, but …” He left it hanging there.

Unions put pressure on again-profitable airlines

May 16, 2007 1 comment

When the airline industry went into a deep slump after the 2001 terrorist attacks, American Airlines’ pilots, flight attendants and mechanics agreed to billions of dollars in cuts in wages and benefits to keep the carrier afloat.

Now AMR Corp., American’s parent, is back in the black, so much so that 874 top executives will receive more than $150 million in stock bonuses next week.

As for the 57,000 rank-and-file employees, they’re seeing red.

“We made huge sacrifices,” said Dana Davis, an 18-year American employee and spokeswoman for the Assn. of Professional Flight Attendants.

This doesn’t seem particularly fair. The unions gave up a lot to help out the airline during their bleak times and the airline is unwilling or unable to give back?

Rev. Jerry Falwell dies at age 73

This VP seems a bit confused:

“Ron Godwin, the executive vice president for Liberty University and friend who had breakfast with Jerry Falwell this morning prior to his death compared the response that will come with Fallwell’s death to that which followed the Virginia Tech shootings during a news conference which just concluded that officially annouced Fallwell’s death.”
